Neck and Shoulder Stretch

Tension in the neck and shoulders is common after a stressful day. Use this stretch to relax tired muscles in your neck and shoulders.

Equipment:
None

Exercise:

  1. Bring your right hand behind you. Hold with your left.
  2. As you tilt your head to the left, pull down on your right arm with your left hand until "stretch is felt in the neck and top of shoulders.
  3. Hold for 10 seconds.
  4. Repeat on the other side.
Performance tips:
  1. Continue breathing as you hold the stretch.
  2. Move slowly without jerking or bouncing.
Repetitions:
Repeat once or twice, holding the stretch for at least 10 seconds.




Neck Side Bend

After a long day at the office or several hours of Christmas shopping, this stretch will relieve tension in your neck and shoulders.

Exercise:

  • It can be done standing or sitting.
  • Hold your arm above the wrist and pull downward and across your body while gently tilting head.
  • Hold for 10 seconds.
  • Repeat on the other side.
Performance tips:
  • Avoid jerking your arm.
  • Move slowly into the stretch.
  • Continue breathing as you hold the stretch.
